Williams reached the Crucible stage of the World Championship for the third time in 2016. He beat Anthony Hamilton 10-9 in the final round of qualifying at Ponds Forge, but was defeated 10-8 at the last 32 against Ricky Walden.
He reached the semi-finals of the 2013 Indian Open, winning six matches against the likes of Shaun Murphy and Andrew Higginson, before losing to eventual champion Ding Junhui.
Williams also made the semi-finals of the 2013 Ruhr Open in Germany.
He secured his place on the pro circuit in 2012 through Q School. In the final round he came through a gruelling four-hour-27-minute battle with Mitchell Mann, securing the victory with a break of 102 in the deciding frame to win 4-3.
