4 Ranking event wins: 2011 Australian Open, 2014 Shanghai Masters, 2015 World Championship, 2017 Welsh Open
After a 21-month ranking title drought, Bingham finally got his hands on silverware at the 2017 Welsh Open. He won a dramatic final with Judd Trump 9-8.
Bingham didn’t manage to add to his ranking title tally in 2015/16, however it took the narrowest of margins to stop him. At the 2016 World Grand Prix in Llandudno he lost a nip and tuck battle with Shaun Murphy 10-9.
He suffered another agonising defeat at the World Championship as he fell foul of the Crucible curse. Beginning the defence of his world title against Ali Carter, Bingham led 9-8 only to be pegged back to a 10-9 defeat.
A year earlier Bingham realised a lifelong dream as he became 2015 World Champion. Starting the event as a 50/1 outsider, he saw off Robbie Williams and Graeme Dott, before shooting down big guns Ronnie O’Sullivan and Judd Trump to reach his first Crucible final. In a brilliant match, Bingham made 17 breaks over 50 to secure a remarkable 18-15 win over Shaun Murphy.
That capped off a great season for the Essex cueman. At the 2014 Shanghai Masters he beat Mark Allen 10-3 in the final to take the £85,000 prize. He then went on to win the Haining Open Asian Tour event with a 4-0 final defeat of Oliver Lines.
After 16 years of trying, Bingham won his first ranking title at the 2011 Australian Open, the first ever ranking event to be staged down under. He beat Ding Junhui, Tom Ford, Mark Allen and Shaun Murphy to reach the final and then came from 8-5 down to beat Mark Williams 9-8 to secure the crown.
In 2000 he made his Crucible debut and scored one of the event’s biggest ever first-round shocks, beating defending World Champion Stephen Hendry 10-7, before losing 13-9 to Jimmy White.
Two years later he came within two balls of a maximum 147 and a £167,000 jackpot but missed the final pink.
Bingham, world amateur champion in 1996, used to be a keen golfer, before the hectic snooker circuit forced him to put away his clubs. He and wife Michelle have three children.
