The highlight of the 2012/13 season for Bedford was a run to the venue stage of the Haikou World Open. He won four matches in the qualifying rounds - beating Ken Doherty 5-4 to secure a trip to China. But he then lost to wild card Lyu Haotian.

He was relegated from the tour at the end of the 2010/11 season but the Yorkshire player recovered immediately by qualifying via Q School. He beat Lee Walker 4-3 in the final round of the second event. "Five years ago I gave the game up, then (coach) Steve Prest helped me get back into it and I got into the top 64. When Steve died I lost my love of the game for a while. But I'm back on my feet now and ready to give the tour a good crack," he said.

In 2008 he reached the last 32 of the Grand Prix, edging past Mark Williams 5-4 before losing 5-1 to Peter Ebdon.

Bedford, who achieved his highest world ranking of 63 in 2005/06, won nine matches at three different venues to qualify for the televised stages of the 1998 World Championship - booking his place at the Crucible with a 10-9 defeat of Gary Wilkinson. He lost to six-times champion Steve Davis in the first round proper.
