Wakelin recorded the most memorable victory of his career by beating Ronnie O’Sullivan at the 2016 English Open. The Englishman reached the quarter-finals, where he lost out to Stuart Bingham.
His beat Matthew Stevens 6-5 in a tense 2015 UK Championship last 128 match. He lost out in the next round after a 6-2 defeat against Michael Holt.
He reached the quarter-finals of a full ranking event for the first time at the 2015 Indian Open in Mumbai. He won four matches before losing to eventual Champion Michael White.
Wakelin earned a place on snooker’s main tour for the first time by coming through Q School in 2013. He beat Adam Wicheard 4-2 in the final of the third event, in bizarre circumstances after his opponent’s cue snapped in the sixth frame.
